One thing that has been bothering me is China's limited border with Afghanistan. It's rugged country, all right, but it's still summer, and I wonder if Ben Laden is already staying at a military base in Western China somewhere.

I kind of doubt it. I think Ben Laden will stay near his supporters and not trust to a non-muslim foreign government. Plus, the Pamir valley is very difficult to get into and out of even in high summer. As I remember, the floor of the valley is over 10,000 ft above sea level.

I wonder if Ben Laden is already staying at a military base in Western China somewhere. The Chinese have their own Islamic Fundamentalism problem in their western provinces. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, but not if he is already my enemy.

No. China hates him. He has stirred up a mess of anti-Chinese terrorist attacks in Western China in the past year. China's border is sealed tight, and they're just waiting for us to begin using military assets to publically justify what they've been doing in their own country against terrorism for years.

Nah -- the Chinese have no interest in him (and a significant disinterest in his brand of radical Islamism spreading to their own western territories). If they got him, they'd exchange his sorry ass for a few more trade benefits.
