How truely sad. The UN flag flies year round at the town's seat of city government but not the US flag. And that professor is truely ignorant.

She said she was opposed to "excessive" displays because it "fades the significance of the flag."I fly my flag every day and it's significance has never faded in my eyes.

The Amherst Left couldn't resist the tide. Flags are being flown all over the country. People are proud of being Americans. It may not be politically correct, but its moving to be able to express love of your country and not feel ashamed of being an American. Let's put the flag out wherever an American can be found.
VOLLEY! FIRE!

Keep 'em flying!
The flags, that is. On this Constitution/Citizenship Day, Monday, September 17 (the 214th anniversary of the ratification of our U.S. Constitution in 1787). Of course, everyone will think you're just continuing the flag-flying from last week and won't realize that it's Constitution Day, too, but that's OK.
Of course, given the events of the past week, our attention right now is not on the domestic Constitutional issue of the past 68 years, namely, the usurpation by the federal government of powers--retirement (Social Security), health care (Medicare), education, etc.--powers not delegated to it by the states in the Constitution, contrary to the Tenth Amendment. So this year's Constitution Day is not the most opportune time to call attention to the problem of Big Government. But at least tuck the issue away for when we can get back to it.
And if you have time, it's a good day to read the Constitution again and talk about it with family or friends.

I wish John Adams were there to give them a piece of his mind.

This reminds me of the US Tennis Open in NY a couple of weeks ago. I seem to remember that they were not playing the National Anthem at the begining of the event because it was an "international event". What a bunch of assholes. Even at the Little League World Series, which I attended, which was an "international event", they played the Star Spangled Banner at the begining. I remember seeing a news clip from the US Tennis Open in New York where the ushers were carrying away a spectator who was singing the Star Spangled Banner and waving a big American Flag. They were treating the patriotic American like he was some kind of loon. Again, Fu*ck the US Open Tennis Tournament if they won't play the National Anthem. I didn't watch any of the games when I heard they were not playing it. Screw them.

while Jennie Traschen, a University of Massachusetts physics professor, said, "The flag is a symbol of tyranny and fear and destruction and terrorism." Do we really want people like this teaching our children?
Time to get in contact with the University of Massachussetts, I would think.

My words to the "good" professor: "If you feel this way, don't let the door hit you on the derriere on your way out..."

There are American flags flying all over the town of Amherst as well as the surrounding communities which actually is located in one of the more conservative (if you can use that word in Mass.) areas of W.Mass, the Conn.River valley, with its large agricultural base settled generations ago by Polish immigrants.
The DPW workers are often the descendants of these farmers, so I'm not surprised they would clandesantly help to raise the flags.

Ed Cutting, a graduate student at the University of Massachusetts, said the row of flags sent the message that "Amherst is friendly to those who don't hate our country." What wit! That's the best quote I've ever heard. I'd like to meet this guy.

Town Manager Barry L. Del Castilho was troubled that the "flags went up without authorization," since the Select Board has jurisdiction over the public ways.
Nobodys more fiercely territorial than a small town official with a teeny taste of power.
Americas little ayatollahs.

Per the UMass Amherst website:

Please feel free to contact her, but, be diplomatic and logical in your messages - do not sink to her level.
