I am really disappointed in the Romans, to hear that they slaughtered 450,000 of 500,000 people.
At least a quarter of those had to be females under 30 years of age, wouldn't you say? I can't fathom not sending them home with the soldiers (unless the Carthaginian women were all congenitally ugly...). Moreover, children between the ages of 10 and 16 can be used as household slaves.
What a terrific waste. My image of the Romans as thrifty administrators is completely shattered...
