Do you really think the Crusader era is something we should be proud of?

Since I have no control over that, any more than you do, I prefer to deal with the current Mass Murderers.
And see to it that there is no chance of a recurrence.

Wouldn't you?

I fully agree. But Rome2000 posted a gif of what appeared to be a Crusader.

I know that Charles Martel and others defended Europe against military expansion by the Moors, but much of what has been romanticized in the Crusades was an ungodly mess of superstitiously misguided reprobates killing in the name of Christ.

We need to fight the war as a war between the U.S. and anti-American terrorists. The fact that many Muslims (and quite a few Americans) wrongly (i.e., too simplistically) think of our nation as a "Christian nation" is likely to confuse the issue. It is likely to trick folks into thinking that it's just a war of Christians against infidels.

That's the mistake which seems to be cropping up all over. It was the mentality of the Crusaders--most of whom were no more Christians than my dog is.

Please don't read these comments on my part as either un-American or anti-Christian heresy. What I am saying is that we do not even need to frame the war as "Christians versus infidels" in order to seek the Lord's blessing. The average person may think so, but the average person is not as thoughtful as he should be.

As a matter of fact, I believe that the Lord is actually more inclined to honor our prayers if we do not take His name in vain. That means I think we need to admit that most of the folks in our country are not Christians in the first place.
