The middle part of the country - the great red zone that voted for Bush - is clearly ready for war. The decadent left in its enclaves on the coasts is not dead - and may well mount a fifth column. But by striking at the heart of New York City, the terrorists ensured that at least one deep segment of the country ill-disposed towards a new president is now the most passionate in his defence. Anyone who has ever tried to get one over on a New Yorker knows what I mean. The demons who started this have no idea about the kind of people they have taken on. Ping.

"We are all Americans now".
I knew that; that's why I'm here. ;^)
"We are now in the quiet moment before the whirlwind".
Bttt!

Ping again. Andrew wrote this BEFORE the National Cathedral address and before Presideint Bush went to New York. And before he spoke to reporters today at Camp David.
We will win, because we have the best man possible for this hour.

Andrew Sullivan, a Brit , is one of our most poetic patriots.

Just read another thread. Turns out that at least two of the terrorists were Americans. How do you like that?
To: Howlin
This was an utterly brilliant analysis -- and best of all he didn't bring up sexual orientation once!

"How do you like that?"
Irrelevant. I've never seen Americans, and actually Canadians, as well, and I gather most other civilized nations in the world, so at-one in spirit.
We are stricken by loss, but as grief inevitably pales and exhausts itself, it will be replaced by a resolute fury that the Islamic fanatics can scarce imagine.
Hell's mouth will open to receive them.
There are no doubt, traitors; there always are.
They are as chaff in the storm that is about to sweep the terrorists away.
Never Forget, Never Forgive Bump.

This was an utterly brilliant analysis -- and best of all he didn't bring up sexual orientation once! You, on the other hand, couldn't stop yourself from doing so.

Andrew says he is now an American. Believe him. He is one of our very fine writers. Believe him. His message is, we have a long struggle ahead. Believe him. Andrew notes that the world of civilization as we know it is at stake. Believe him. With a succinct sentence or two, Andrew notes that these animals have no idea whom they've awakened, whom will be coming for them. Believe him. Let us make it so!

This kind of writing proves that the pen is (and always will be) mighter than the sword.

Then, as a plane passed through the glass wall of the vast building, as seamlessly as a champion diver into water, something in the soul of America died. More than brilliant.
The demons who started this have no idea about the kind of people they have taken on.
No, but they are just beginning to learn. Beware the sleeping giant. It may have been best to let her slumber.
To: Howlin, Pokey78
Howlin, thanks for the ping, and Pokey, thanks so much for posting this. I think it is one of Andrew's best.
