Interesting observation. Bobby Kennedy's assassination was the first Palestinian hit carried out in the USA. Sirhan Sirhan readily admitted that he killed Kennedy because of the latter's support of Israel, but the justice system preferred to believe he was "insane". This policy is still with us; the Egyptian pilot who crashed Flight 990 from New York screamed that he was doing it for the glory of Allah. He was found by investigators to have been "depressed" and "suicidal".

Finally, two things should be realized by the American people. First, such a fight will be long and costly -- both in terms of money and human lives. Secondly, the enemy has fired the first shot and in all probability has second strike capability. Such a war will be a terrible struggle the likes of which this American generation can scarcely imagine -- however the alternative of not destroying this enemy is too horrible to contemplate.

America, in the spasms of a few hours, became a changed country. It turned the corner, at last, out of the 1990s. The menu of American priorities was rearranged. The presidency of George W. Bush begins now. What seemed important a few days ago (in the media, at least) became instantly trivial.

How true! Things are not the same as they were Monday. We are a changed country and to pretend otherwise in order to move along is naive at best.
