I served mostly infantry '69-'79. Got out before the big changes. I have difficulty imagining an effective civil infantry. Some jobs take brute animals to perform. There were clubs in Vietnam that had "no infantry allowed" signs on their doors. After a little griping about it, the signs actually increased morale of the infantry.

Those type of soldiers still exist, they are just waiting for a leader to tell them where/who/what/when to kick some *ss.
