Not during my 11 1/2 years ending in 98 they didn't. I pray that the services bench all their politically correct MANAGERS and bring in the fellows we classify as WARRIORS to lead our troops into battle. The fellows who are labled as "Break glass,..........in case of Emergengy". That's the problem. They did when I served 1968-70.

I was recently reading through a book written by one of the men who worked at Aberdeen Proving Ground during the war. He suggests that Mr. Patton helped prevent the deployment of the M26 Pershing (and variants) to the European Theater. If true, then it might be said that Mr. Patton (in that particular instance) 'chose poorly'...

This is the best post I've read all week. I hope JR recognizes its historic relevance and valued purpose. But I fear it might get pulled. I hope not.

Nuke the bastards. I hope not. We have no need to. It would make us into the biggest nation of cowards to have ever walked the face of the earth.

I'd trade every liberal Bush-bashing columnist in this nation for just one Patton.

Bump, SIR!

I served mostly infantry '69-'79. Got out before the big changes. I have difficulty imagining an effective civil infantry. Some jobs take brute animals to perform. There were clubs in Vietnam that had "no infantry allowed" signs on their doors. After a little griping about it, the signs actually increased morale of the infantry.

Patton was also convinced that Japan had spies in Hawaii and was sure that they were planning to attack. He stated this several years prior to 1941 , btw.
His chain of command thought he was nuts. Please read the book I mentioned in my earlier post.

Those type of soldiers still exist, they are just waiting for a leader to tell them where/who/what/when to kick some *ss.

I hope not... I'm bookmarking it!

Now this is what I have been wanting to hear from our president (minus the profanities). What I unfortunately have been hearing is "we will find them and bring them to justice". Justice? Justice? Whatever does that mean, sir? We bring obvious murderers of precious Americans to WHOSE court???? Somebody please tell me that we are NOT going to bring these murderers of Americans to a UN war crimes tribunal. That makes my stomach turn just thinking of it.

I thought this was the speech where he said something to the effect that "I don't want you to die for your country, I want you to make the Germans die for their country." Or was that only in the movie?
I saw a great bumper sticker last night, it said "Don't bother running, you'll just die tired."
Although it was a sticker about snipers (in particular, what snipers do), it seems very appropriate for those responsible for 911.
