Silly and stupid? You mean, what Falwell said? It isn't just silly, and it isn't just stupid. It's scary. How many out there are America's Taliban?

You don't really know WHAT he said, because the article doesn't quote Falwell. That he is against homosexual behavior and abortion shouldn't be a surprise to anybody.

If anything, I think he may have been trying to explain:

1. why the Islam extremists hate the US... as extremely restrictive religious practitioners, they see the US as the primary source of "evil" in the world (pornography, abortion, open homosexuality, materialism & greed, women's rights, lack of spirituality, etc, etc, etc, in addition to supplying money and arms to Osama Bin Laden's enemies). Now, don't ask me how Bin Laden's followers justify killing innocent women & children in their own minds, as I haven't a clue!

2. why he thinks God may not be "protecting" us from the evil of these terrorists as some of Falwell's followers think a "just God" would do.

I do not think he would say we "deserve" to be slaughtered by Muslim terrorists, and I am concerned that the posters here would jump to that conclusion without hearing or reading his exact words, since he has many enemies that would gladly distort his words for their own reasons. (I am not a Falwell follower)

In fact, I heard him being interviewed by a reporter on CNN friday night and he said the comments were made by a guest he was interviewing on his own program, and that he had no control over what his guests say, any more than CNN had control over what he (Falwell) says on their program.

I want to again clarify, that I am not familiar with everything Reverend Falwell has said either in the past or present since I do not regularly listen to him and certainly do not count myself as one of his enthusiasts.

In other words, you are ignorant in this area. You needn't have stated such for it was already obvious. Comparing Falwell to the Taliban really means you disagree with his opinion. Shall I compare you with Bin Laden because I disagree with you?

Your piece is not only sophomoric, it is absolutely irresponsible.

This post is ridiculous. Falwell, nor any other fundamentalist Christian that obeys God's Word, is not calling for retribution- he's calling for repentance. The Taliban are murdering thugs. To compare the two is the height of idiocy.

Do you remember when the left-wingers in this country promoted the idea of "moral eqivalence" between the former USSR and the US? When you hear people comparing Jerry Falwell to the Taliban, think about it. I think that Jerry was less than sensitive in the timing of his remarks, but as Christians, we do think that this country has slid morally in the last 25-50 years. As Christians, we are also aware of the manner in which God withdrew His protection from ancient Israel. While no individual, or even an identifiable group of individuals should be singled out, IMO, we are less than honest if we don't at least consider the possibility that there are consequences for our decline in morality.
