Im 50 and disabled. Ex Army 1969-1972..I told my youngest son and his friend that I would proudly serve again. I cant so Im miserable about it.

I understand...I was actually surprised to find out that I wasn't too old ! I would like to see an immediate and substantial increase in the amount of young people willing to sign up for military duty.

I've been off ship 21 years now. As well I'm disabled. But if I was able to be back on the America I could still start up every air conditioning unit on the ship and line up the systems. My point is when I was getting out in 1980 the Navy was bringing some old timers back in to train others. The Navy had a respectable re-enlistment cash incentive at that time as well. We went from Carters military to Reagans standards and now the simple truth is we are once again way below the standards of even Carters time.
The reserves and NG's is great but it can not replace a full standing ready military nor can it be seriously considered part of the first wave military.
