SPECIAL EDITION
On this National Day of Prayer and Remembrance, President Bush gave one of the most inspiring speeches in our nation's history. In one of the most stirring moments, President Bush said, 'This nation is peaceful, but fierce when stirred to anger. This conflict was begun on the timing and terms of others; it will end in a way and at an hour of our choosing.'
Later in the day, the President visited the destruction in NYC, first flying over the rubble of the World Trade Center, and then witness the rescue and ruins first hand. In his rallying cry to the hundreds of rescue personnel, President Bush spoke to the workers with a megaphone. In the highlight of his speech in NYC, the President had the following exchange with the crowd:
RESCUER: I can hear you!
PRES. BUSH: I can hear you too! (crowd laughs)... And the world can hear you... (crowd cheers) and the people who knocked down these buildings will be hearing from all of us soon! (crowd erupts with chants of USA! USA! USA!)
Fittingly so, on this National Day of Prayer and Remembrance, the nation and the world can take comfort in knowing that we have a man of passion and principle leading the greatest country in the world.
Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!
I just want to say that tonight, I saw such goodness and hope, that I take comfort in knowing that America has come together as a united voice. What has been most inspiring is seeing young people- teenagers, out on street corners with their candles singing the Star Spangled Banner. There was one group of around 11-12 young ladies. And then, we saw one, lone teenage boy on a corner by himself- proudly waiving the flag and holding a candle. My heart just fills with pride knowing that the youth of this country have rallied around the flag and have learned a lesson about patriotism that I was convinced they'd never learn. Even small children were out with candles and flags- children as a young as 3 years old who truly knew the meaning behind what they were doing. Young and old, and those of use in between have all united as one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
America's future has never been so bright.
I completely agree with you, rintense!
As I drove around today, I was completely overwhelmed by the patriotism I saw and felt.........flags everywhere- on homes, trucks, in windows, in the town square; red, white and blue ribbons, patriotic clothing, shirts, jackets, ties.......it was so moving I wept most of the day.
The President was magnificent and moving, and I thought as I heard the responses to his strength, the American public is finally seeing what we here on this thread have seen from the beginning in this man; his dignity, strength, warmth, humility, resolve, and patriotism. For us there are no surprises here. He is doing and saying what we knew he would. He is being the leader that God has given him the ability, strength and willingness to be.
Our nation is blessed.
