I am watching the broadcast from the Natl. Cathedral as I read your post. Amen and Amen. God Bless Our Great Nation.

What's going to be especially tough in this struggle, Jeff, is the fact that we're fighting an enemy that blends in with the populace. Just exactly who/where do we hit? I can honestly tell you that I don't envy those who must make those decisions based upon, at best, limited intel.
I'll go so far here as to say that I think it's impossible to wage the war these animals started without major cities being pounded or wiped out. THAT is supremely sad, but again........what else do we do? Sit and wait for them to pop up out of their holes and arrest them somehow? With whose police or military forces? Theirs? Even if that was possible, we all know what would happen next: more young martyrdom-bound fanatics will replenish their ranks.
The only conceivable way to quash this vicious cycle is through............viciousness. It must hurt, and hurt bad. It must be so painful that terrorists will be pariahs in these countries rather than heroes.
........and I know of no civilized person who could be happy about it.

You are a limp wristed coward, to be perfectly blunt.

Muslims DO NOT WORSHIP THE SAME GOD as Jews and Christians do. "Allah" is not Jehova. "Allah" is the Arabic MOON GOD Please, please STOP insulting their religion! This is getting crazy. We have to do what we have to do but we should not insult their religion. Insulting their religion is a total waste of spiritual energy.

Bull pucky. It takes courage to do the right thing, and the right thing is to kill those responible and dismantle the political infrastructure of those states responsible. The wrong thing is to indiscriminately slaughter civilians who
To: RightOnline
I think we're probably closer in agreement here than we think. The real difference, I guess, is that I believe we're capable of directing our attacks to military targets and that we can avoid civilian casualties.
In horrible times, people and nations do horrible things. I think the USA is a moral nation. I don't want to see these animals destroy that part of us as well. I don't want to see us unleash wholesale desruction against a people, rather than a government and terrorist organizations. I hope I'm right. I hope you're wrong. Hell, I'm sure you hope that we can destroy this menace without killing a host of civilians.
In any case, life is about to get very nasty, short and brutish for a number of people. I just hope they're the ones who deserve it.
To: It is time
their book disallows muslims to even be friends with jews and christians. And their book also disallows shaking the hand of a Christian or Jew.
Then I guess that my neighbor across the street and the Muslims that are here at work live in violation of the Koran. (Hint: I *know* my neighbor scrupulously observes Ramadan)
To blame all Muslims for this outrage is every bit as ridiculous as blaming all white folks for slavery.

ROL, Thank you so much for writing this and flagging me.
IMO, your essay here is just terrific. I wish everyone would read it.
My very favorite thought expressed in your piece is this one:

This is why we're all often referred to as "Children of the Book".

With peace and love to you ROL,

You keep that up, I'm starting a fan club. You'll have to make an appearance at least once a year. :)

To blame all Muslims for this outrage is every bit as ridiculous as blaming all white folks for slavery. Obviously we cannot blame all Muslims for this outrage but at the same time we cannot allow all Muslims to continue roaming freely all throughout the US with no questions asked. I really don't care if an "innocent" Muslim gets asked a couple questions about their purpose in being in the US now.

I know and see that I am apparently against virtually everyone at free republic, but I believe that an overwhelming majority of Muslims are not evil and do not wish destruction upon the US...You are not alone

summer, thank you Sweetie, I would have missed this excellent essay.
ROL, this is the message we need to send to Osama and friends. Thank you for saying it so eloquently and forcefully. Our media doesn't seem to understand that our enemies rejoice when they (American pundits) dump on our President and our nation, especially former Presidents who undermine our authority and position on the world stage with their interference. It is time to draw a line in the sand.
"He looked into the eyes of President Bush and felt much better. He felt a renewed sense of confidence." -FoxNews reporter (David Lee Miller ?) after talking to a rescue worker who met the President today. Our President will lead.
