Correct. There is no reason why these people should hate us, if they are able to take care of themselves. There is nothing predetermined about economic prosperity. It simply takes freedom and opportunity. These people have neither, and that is one reason they are SO miserable.
Can you imagine Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria and Libya run by FREE citizens? They are rich in resources, and their people are intelligent and hard-working. Given the chance, they have all the tools they need. If they're busy working on their own "miracle" they're not likely to give much heed and help to fanatical madmen.
Again, this is years from now, but if we could take over these places for awhile, and settle things down, it's possible.

but I just worry that as time goes on, wrists will go limp and knees will buckle.
I really don't think this will be the case. I believe that in the next couple of days the white-hot rage we are all feeling will be replaced by a "Who the f*ck do these people think they are?" kind of attitude. What we have to do now is take this rage and put it way down deep, feed it every now and then to keep it banked. Steely resolve and patience is what is called for now. This isn't going to be over in 6 months or a year it's going to take a while, but if we stay resolved we will win, there is no other choice either civilation wins or it's another dark age.

Mayor Rudy Giuliani has just requested 11,000 body bags, and I believe he is an optimist. Not necessarily. Many, if not most, of the bodies probably don't exist anymore. Don't need body bags for them.

He's being optomistic if he thinks 11,000 bodies will be recovered.

Not once, in hours of listening, did I hear anyone express anger. No one said, coldly but in deadly seriousness, "People are going to die for this, a whole lot of people."I said that Tuesday afternoon, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one. I've heard others say it since then. A cold fury is palpable among the people.

You should at least state that you are taking a shot completely in the dark. There could easily only be 3,000 to 8,000 dead which is terrible but because people like you keep throwing numbers around with no logical basis it will not sound as bad. The city has reported that there were only about 20,000 people in the towers at the time. Now personally I believe that casualties could be as high as 20,000 but there is not a logical basis for it at this point. Even if there were 30,000 people in the building once the planes hit most people would have started to leave whether they were told to stay or not. In an hour which is approximately what they had, 10,000 people could have exited each tower. Couple that with the only 3,700 people being reported missing and several of the companies such as Morgan stanley reporting that most of their employees are accounted for. It appears from these facts that the casualty count could be much lower than 20,000. Now why do I write all of this. It is because we should be dealing with facts and looking at realistic scenarios. If you have a basis for saying 20,000 dead then give it but don't just post it as fact give reasons.

Believe me, I hope I am wrong. I just think as this war rages on and the collateral damage mounts, the libs will start crying about how the US has gone overboard with out retaliation and that we should just start imposing sanctions.

" Buy western Jordan for a new Palestinian state with infrastructure paid for by the Iraqi oil fields." Last week I would have laughed at that. Now it's reasonable.

the libs will start crying
Hand them a towel(made from UNrecycled paper) and tell them to get over it.
I am reminded of Shermans remark on war.

I have just had the distinct displeasure of hearing Prof. Howard Zinn and a jerk whose name I cannot remember (I did catch that he started the "African-American Studies Program" at Blah-blah U.), telling us that "social justice" and "equality" were needed and "we" have been doing this too long to the downtrodden.
I actually had to pull over to the roadside, I couldn't *%*#% see straight.
This was followed by "Father" Dan Berrigan, who did nothing to bring my blood pressure down.
Berrigan at least sounded like a misguided religeous peacenik, but Zinn and Abu-Bendover gave the most craven, cowardly, SOCIALIST, line of ass-sucking appeasement since Roman ambassadors showed up at Attilla's camp with tons of gold.
