Students stunned by terrorist attacks in US

The Daily Star

Though most students expressed shock and sadness as a result of the attacks, others felt that America had remained immune to violence for far too long. Rami Tabbara, a 17-year-old Lebanese-Canadian student, welcomed the news of the bombings in New York City. “I was happy to hear about it,”  he remarked in an interview outside of school.
“I think I speak for all of my friends when I say this. The Middle Easterners and Palestinians are always being oppressed. Now the Americans get a taste of what the Arabs have been through … If anything, I feel bad for the innocent people who died. I’m happy that the Americans feel the blood and terror that we always feel.”
It seemed that for the majority of students, however, Tuesday was not an occasion for celebration, but a day of fear and disbelief. Teachers described classes as solemn and quiet, a day in which students tried to contemplate a world where suddenly anyone seemed vulnerable to violence.

It's good to know that many Arab youth understand that this is not an attack on just America, but also on humanity.
Yet some Arab youth have been fed the doctrine of hate.

I am saddened by how the students accept this as the way it is and can't see that life can and should be different.

Maybe this is ultimately America's role: To be the shining example of individual Liberty and Freedom in an otherwise violent world.

"I’m happy that the Americans feel the blood and terror that we always feel."

Oddly enough, this is pretty much what some folks on FR are saying in justification of the cowardly attacks.

Well Rami Tabbara, you're happy to hear about it. Then you are going to be thrilled to death the next time Israel kicks Palestinian butt and there are no voices from this side of the pond criticizing them. Your terrorist buddies just gave Israel a blank check to do whatever they want.

i guess i disagree with what people have been saying on here then - there is no justification for this. we don't go destroy life and property because we get a wild hair up our butts. I feel bad for people who think this way. chip

Exactly. And you can bet this kid will get his A$$ beat if he says that again at school.

Fortunately theirs is not a common sentiment on FR...nor one they would have the courage to speak in public.

i don't know if i am the only one who thinks this way but i really feel the people who did this bit off a little more than they can chew this time. I am going to have to agree with you on one thing though Isreal will start to show its strength. chip

Listen to the words of this youthful barbarian. Get this young rattlesnake (who is not an American) out of the U.S. before it grows up to be a big one.

Really? So the little (expletive deleted) is happy about it, is she? Well, let us give the terrorists and their friends far more than a taste of pain and horror. Let us make them choke upon it.

And who is opressing them??? America??? Get real, Rami. It's your own lying, brainwashing totalitarian leaders doing the opressing.

Free people are NOT opressed.

The United States supported in good faith the peace process at Oslo. If that process had worked out, there would have been many in the US that would have supported and helped a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza. The Clinton Plan offered the Arabs the Old City of Jerusalem for gosh sakes! If they were serious about peace, they should have grabbed the Clinton plan, plus a large reparations payment in return for waiving the right of return for 1948-49 refugees and sought a peaceful accommodation. The Arabs are not willing to make one single compromise. The Arabs are not serious about seeking a peaceful way out. They just want to destroy Israel and all Israeli Jews. Therefore, they have no right to criticize American actions in the region.
