President Bush and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld survey the damage at the Pentagon, a day after the suicide attack on the military center.

Firefighters and investigators search for clues amidst the wreckage of the crash of a United Airlines Boeing 757, a day after the plane was crashed in a hijack attempt. The plane may have been hijacked by terrorists connected with those involved in the three suicide crashes in New York and Washington.

Some New Yorkers have sought solace in prayer to come to terms with the tragedy.

Contrary to Peggy Noonan's praise for the press, some have been abominable - particularly Jennings, Russert, Mitchell, Williams, Matthews. However, the PICTURES - still and video - have been truly remarkable. Amazing clarity, perfect timing, and poignant without being intrusive. There's a real art to that, and so many have done it so well. Thanks for this post.

I want to thank you for this thread. Ome of my nephews is one of the firefighters in New York. ......Engine 205 . I told him about FR and the wonderful people here. He creid on the phone and said to tel you and everyone thank you so much for our prayers and support . He lost eleven of his fellow firefighters in his own unit and also just barely got out ot the buidling as it was collapsing.

Several of the firefighters includning one of the Chief Deputy Firemen was decapitated.

It is like a war zone aftermath and they are all being so wonderfully strong.
