BRISBANE, Australia (AP) - A school bus carrying Muslim children was stoned in apparent retaliation for terrorist attacks in the United States, officials said Thursday.
Queensland state Islamic Council chairman Sultan Deen said stones and bottles damaged the side of the bus Wednesday in the northeastern city of Brisbane. Nobody was injured.
"The children are quite shaken up," Deen said.
He said public outrage over the U.S. attacks has also led to abusive phone calls to mosques. Suspicion for the attacks has fallen on terror suspect Osama bin Laden.
"It is very disturbing. They are saying things like, 'You will be held responsible' and 'We'll get you,'" Deen said.
Meanwhile, pro-Islamic slogans were daubed on a building in Melbourne's central business district overnight, police said.
The Chairman of the Islamic Council of Victoria, Yasser Soliman, said the Muslim community was shocked and appalled by the terror attacks.
"Terrorism, the killing of innocent people, is a crime against God and against humanity," Soliman said in a statement.
To a muslim, killing the infidel is not the same as a person, it is the same as killing an animal. 'God' is Allah(Jihad), not the God of Moses. A 'crime' is defined by the sharia or unholy laws of Islam, not a legal precedent. Only Clinton could top this kind of double-speak.
The Islamic Foundation of Australia says threats have been made against community members, its schools and mosques following the terrorist attacks in the United States.
Dr Omar Lum says there have been verbal threats and he has called for greater tolerance and understanding.
"I think by and large the Australian population they are very fair minded and they're very open minded," Dr Lum said.
"I mean so far nobody knows who actually committed those atrocities in New York and I'm quite sure that in general the population being fair-minded, they cannot blame that event on the Muslims of Australia."

Islamic terrorists are killing innocent people in the name of Allah. It's what the muslim religion calls 'the holly war' against satans - people of other religions.
The attack is wrong and appalling, but my schadenfreude meter is off the scale.
It is so ironic that both BillyBob (in Aussieland) and Algore (in Austria) are both on foreign soil during all this mess, isn't it?
