An echo from Christendom's past
Butler's Lives of the Saints

In Butler's Lives of the Saints, we read that today is the feast of the holy name of Mary. It was extended to the entire Western Church in 1683 by Pope Innocent XI as an act of thanksgiving for the lifting of the siege of Vienna and the defeat of the Turks by the Christian army led by Jan Sobieski, king of Poland. This date is that of his victory over the Turks and thus the rescue of Christian Europe from invading Moslems.

The more I think about this, the more I am coming to the conclusion we are heading toward another Crusades, a holy war. This was not an attack on America, but on Western Civilization. The radical Moslems will not stop until we are utterly destroyed. They must be stopped. We must pray, and fight.

I wonder if our nation had not deteriorated into the largest purveyor of pornagraphy, abortion, contraception to the rest of the world (not to mention the exploitation of 3rd world countries by our international corporations driven by the greedy desires of our nation's citizens) if the Taliban would continue to regard us as the Great Satan. In other words, if we truly exhibited and exuded our real Christian roots, rather than the image we project to the world because of the evil forces that have crept into the positions of controlling authority, would fundamentalist Muslims feel so justified in murdering our innocent citizens.
Of course, OTOH, I believe the Taliban is threatening to behead 2 Christian missionaries they captured, who were proseltyzing to their people. That fact makes me think that even were we to practice what the Christian remnant within our country believes, the Muslims would still hate us.

My new posting friend: There is no excuse for the murderous behavior of our enemy even though I understand your sentiments when you say "

In the last few months, my wife and I have taken to the reading of the Divine Office. We're not perfect but we try to keep up with most of the Office. She's a nurse and I'm a doc so, with our schedules, it's not easy but ...... if you have access to the Office review the readings of the past few days.

"That fact makes me think that even were we to practice what the Christian remnant within our country believes, the Muslims would still hate us."Yes. If the experience of the past several centuries is any clue, they would hate us even more.
