Anti-Attack Feds Push Carnivore

WASHINGTON -- Federal police are reportedly increasing Internet surveillance after Tuesday's deadly attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Just hours after three airplanes smashed into the buildings in what some U.S. legislators have dubbed a second Pearl Harbor, FBI agents began to visit Web-based, e-mail firms and network providers, according to engineers at those companies who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Yes...the real losers are going to be law abiding citizens. Politicians and bureaucrats of both parties will fall all over themselves to be the first to propose solutions that will "forever end terrorism". Unfortunately for us, the solutions will be national I.D. cards, travel passes, further expansion of property confiscation and no knock entry laws and God only knows what else.

I see a parallel here with public education.

Public education is failing miserably to educate our kids, even at an insane cost of over $10000 per student per year in places, while private education is doing an admirable job for less than $4000 per student per year.

Solution? Obviously, we need to extort more money from the people so that we can even more insanely finance public education. And when we're spending $25000 per student per year and even fewer high-school graduates can read, the solution will be to spend $30000/student/year or more.

This is exactly the sort of attack the FBI told us Carnivore would prevent, if we gave up enough of our liberties to allow our Internet communications to be monitored.

Carnivore obviously did a p!ss-poor job of preventing this attack.

The solution? We must give up more liberty, and install Carnivore on more ISPs. Surely that's the ticket.
