Authorities search for bomb at Daytona airport

Orlando Salinas, FoxNews, was just live in Daytona and authorities are searching a plane there with bomb sniffing dogs. Nothing on their web site though.

I heard that....I believe he said it was a United Airlines plane. Everything is happening so fast that I may have heard wrong. That flight school? We parked right across the street from that school when we went to the Pepsi 400 in Daytona. Unreal.

FBI is going over the 737 Simulator logs at ERAU's training facility.

737 was there. Now in England.

WFLA (in Tampa) just confirmed that officials are interviewing a couple in Venice, FL that let two men stay with them last year while they were taking flight lessons at the Venice Airport. They said they are related to yesterdays issues.

I believe that all aircraft will be checked before they are released to fly again. All. While working at a major, we were on high alert and the FBI came to each aircraft at night and checked it. I think they would do the same and more now.

I almost attended Embry Riddle in Daytona. Instead, I attended another flight and engineering school in the midwest. I have many many friends who fly, either in the military or commercial service. All of them have been trained on simulators as well as regular flight time.

As with Embry Riddle, our campus had MANY middle eastern students. I had friends from UAE, Saudi Arabia, and many other countries were represented. ALL of them had flight training. Moreover, it is not out of reach to presume that someone with a few hours of simulator training could easily fly a 737,727,767,757, etc. into a building. I believe that has happened.

Gotcha...well...given that the FAA is now (according to scrolls coming across the screen on FNC and MSNBC) going to allow the airlines to decide when to resume flights, it could have been a flight that was preparing to take off. They report, you decide. ;-)

Precisely. The controls in a 757/767 is so computerized, flying it is almost like playing a video game. It is a pilot's dream aircraft to fly. Flying it into a building is a no-brainer.

Terrorists don't have to bother to learn how to land the aircraft. This is where most actual (non-simulated) flight training comes in, for takeoffs, landings and emergency procedures.

Our pilots should have an armed military commando riding shotgun in the jump-seat.
