Please - No Yellow Ribbons
Various | Sept 12, 2001 | Solid Oak

Make no mistake, yesterday an "act of war" was committed against the U.S.. It was not a civil crime that requires justice. Sadly, I'm seeing too many politicians and opinion makers commenting that the guilty ones need to be brought to justice as if they were bank robbers. President Bush needs to ask Congress for a declaration of war against terrorists and those governments that harbor them, and Congress needs to find the courage to declare it. The military brass needs to pocket their typical objection to warfare that does not have traditional WWII type fronts. The military and covert agents need to go in and get these thugs once and for all - stand-off bombing wont do it. Governments that support terrorism need to be toppled so future leaders understand that they themselves will die if they pursue terrorism. Above all, please refrain from putting yellow ribbons around trees etc. - it makes us look like a bunch of wimps.

Agreed re no yellow ribbons. Instead: Fly a flag at your home. If you don't have one, buy one. Donate blood.

Agreed, no ribbons--fly your flag proudly.

Oliver North made a good point on Fox last night; the US has declared war on individual terrorists before. It was back in 18?? when war was declared on the Barbary pirates.

I say the US takes the stance the Israelis took against Nazi war criminals--'never forget'. Hunt 'em down and don't stop 'til they're all gone. No quarter.

Please no yellow ribbons, let's see the below on CNN: 1. Jets taking off aircraft carriers toward Middle East. 2. Laughing children handing out candy waving US flags. 3. Middle East buildings collapsing on innocent people.

I agree... let's use RED and BLACK ribbons... Black, to mourn the loss of life, and Red, to represent the Blood that will flow as a result...

Pardon me, but I am VERY angry...

I notice the NBC media is bringing out the old Clinton team for advice. Sandy Berger, Richard Holbrooke and Cohen and Blair. All we need is Maddie and we can have another Serbian fiasco,

This morning I attached a small American flag to my car antenna. It would be great if every car on the road was flying the colors.

I heard this, too. Apparently, we don't need to declare war on a national entity, specifically. We could actually declare war on Bin Laden's organization and perhaps related organizations as well. Something for Bush to consider, and I would suggest he consider it FAST.

No nonsensical yellow ribbons! Yellow is associated with cowardice. America needs to strike back swiftly with the fury of a wounded animal and to visit such a terrible price on those who have perpetrated it and upon those who have sustained them that they will never again contemplate an attack upon us.

OK - since bin Laden, the coward, is in hiding. And no doubt keps moving as these little weasles do. I gave some thought as to how we might be able to flush him out (or at least find out his whereabouts).

We need to put an ENORMOUS bounty on his head. I'm sure that one of his "associates" would sell him out if the price were right. And here's how we raise the money: someone set up a trust fund or account where each and every American who recieved the rebate recently can deposit their money. I will be willing to send my rebate back if I knew it would go towards finding this bas**rd. Then, we nuke the bas**rd.

The only yellow I want to see are the yellow stripes on the 500 pounders strapped underneath scrambled BUFF's.

If Bush does a Clinton and allows this to be a judicial matter and not a military one, he will be repeating his father's "no new taxes" fiasco over, and will lose the confidence of all of us. We must prosecute this with our military and snuff out all those responsible. No extraditions, no trials. I will be happy with nothing less.

Welcome aboard, Jersey. I agree I want to see all that stuff, but here at Freep, we don't do the Communist News Network. I'd like to see all you mentioned on the Fox News Channel. CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, et al are as much at fault as anyone for the sorry state of our nation which allowed this to happen.

I just heard on the radio Sarah MacLaughlin has already put together a song about the tragedy. She'd better be singing about bombs falling on Kabul...
