FBI Web site created for people to report terrorist activity

The US Government is urging anyone with information about yesterday's terrorist attacks in New York and Washington DC to come forward and report any information they might have.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has set up a Web site for people to report information about yesterday's attack, although at the time of writing the site was, understandably, proving difficult to access.

The Web address is http://www.ifccfbi.gov and provides a link to a form for people to fill in with their information.

Said US Attorney General, John Ashcroft, by way of Reuters: "It takes courage to come forward in situations like this and I urge anyone with information that may be helpful to the authorities to use these resources."

Why are you uncomfortable with this website. We need a central link to feed tips to. It is better than calling your local FBI Office because this site will have people assigned to reading your email tips and responding immediately.

This is the site where you can pass on 'overheard conversations' or any other clues to help us return the attacks on America.

Why are you uncomfortable with this website?

I see the necessity at this time, but what happens when the war is over? An anonymous tips line for "subversives" in peacetime under some other administration could be a terrible thing for freedom lovers. It's certainly nothing I'd make a big issue about right now, but neither the war nor the current administration will last forever.

Solution:

When the attackers have been killed, open up a thread asking the FReepers to support you in emailing their Congressman to close the website.
