I heard a jet flying overhead around midnight here in the LA area, east of LA, south of Pasadena.
I went outside to see but there are puffy white clouds and I couldn't see it but followed the sound as it headed toward LA (west).
This is weird because normally there are a lot of jets that will fly by. When I heard this one I realized how silent it had been. No air traffic at all.
It is eery and spooky.
It is noteworthy because it is the first I have heard all day.
It was travelling high and fast it seemed based on the sound and speed. Based on that my assumption is a military jet.
As I said, this is the first I heard or saw all day.

It's weird to notice a jet and the stillness and quiet was eery.
The significance of a jet flying toward Los Angeles is probably little, but today is of note.
If this wins dumbest post of the day, I can understand. Still, it is quite something to hear a jet fly over and have such a normally mundane event be so potentially significant.

I'm in Van Nuys, and a squadron of f-16's that flew into VN airport earlier today, all took of makeing much noise about 15-18 minutes ago - headed toward LAX.

Same thing happened here in San Diego, painfully quiet then the sound of a jet flying high over head. Living by the airport it is normal to hear, but tonight it was almost scary.

Went to the door to look out - they are still up, circling, looking for something(?) - patrolling? Who knows. They sure tore out of here in a hurry.

I saw it.
Flying East from Malibu-ish, straight for downtown, banked and stayed north of the mountains.
It was going VERY fast.
After the silence it was very strange to hear and see.

Yes, it is very strange to realize there's a jet out there and for it to be exciting.
I went out to see because I knew it was either a terrorist bomber or military.
Have heard nothing since.
I'm probably going to sleep.
Take care all.

It was reported earlier that American Airlines had flown grief counselors to LAX to begin comforting and assisting loved ones of the victims. I thought this odd given the supposed ban. There's likely to be a lot of odd flights taking place on Wednesday while a lot of planes and crews are moved back into position to resume flying.
And, yes, patrolling military jets could also be expected in the skies.

God bless you and God bless America. Sleep well.

There is a fair amount of aircraft activity since midnight at Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport.

I heard what seemed a single jet flying high over North Orange County near Long Beach but couldn't see anything thought it was headed toward San Diego!

Yea, I've seen one or two jets at a time flying a patrol of sorts, out west towards Vandenburg, the back in towards Pamlmdale - Edwards AFB. I'm near Burbank airport and constantly have flight noise, so tonight's quietness broken by this one jet is different, kind of creepy and good at the same time. There's another thread here somewhere with people reporting any flights nationaly, but I've lost it.

march afb is active.... probably means nothing right?

I was wondering how they are going to get all the blood donations to New York without transporting them by air. Don't feel weird about posting this, it's perfectly understandable.

I heard it. I'm hearing something RIGHT NOW. To the south of me, I'm in Montebello...

The sound at midnight was eerie, it didn't sound at all like any kind of aircraft, I think. Or perhaps it was just odd since I haven't heard aircraft overhead all day. The flightpath to LAX from the east goes over my area of L.A. County.

I've heard two more since this thread went up.
Montebello? We're neighbors.

march afb is active.... probably means nothing right? Maybe I've missed it, but I would expect to learn of reserve unit activations, etc. Maybe 18 hours isn't enough time. The units would fly out of mainly military bases, eg. March AFB, Los Alamitos, etc.

Hell of a day, eh neighbor?

Good, we've got angels looking out for us while we sleep .
