Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts.

The victims were in airplanes or in their offices -- secretaries, businessmen and women, military and federal workers. Moms and dads. Friends and neighbors.

That is a pretty freaky message thread. That guy must of been one of the terrorists. How else would he have known about the significance of 911. Then there is the "7 days from now" bit he posted on 9/4. I hope the FBI is looking into this.

I'd be interested to hear what an English teacher or professor would say about this speech. I can tell that Peggy (Noonan) had nothing to do with it. I see too much exposition in it and a couple of strong points. Say what you may, the leader's role is to speak and to speak well and to inspire with his speech those who will, presumably, act. Did he do that? I dunno. So don't tell me about the President acting (the common excuse here for the President's mis-speeches today.) The acting, if any, will be done by our boys (and unfortunately, girls) in uniform. Let's hope for the best.

I can't help but wonder just how far Bush (or the nation, for that matter) will push this, if worse comes to worst. Imagine that we prove Bin Laden is the culprit. He high-tails it to France. France refuses to extradite him to the U.S., because we have the death penalty.

Are we willing to "make no distinction" in that case? It's a question that had better have been asked in the White House.
