I heard on CBS radio news a while ago that Congress will vote on new spending for the intelligence community. Has anyone else heard this?

I haven't heard this, but all of these defense cuts and cuts in intelligence CANNOT be tolerated! I'm all for downsizing government, but when it comes to the Department of Defense and Intelligence activities, I think we should look at increases. We've been lulled into thinking we can downsize since the end of the cold war, when in fact the world is a far more dangerous place now!

You can count on it; it's a no-brainer. Also, some of the most impassioned cries for increased spending will be by the Libs responsible for gutting the budgets of and hamstringing the activites of the intelligence agencies over the past 2 decades.

I heard two things related to this:
1) Author Tom Clancey (sp?) saying we need more "spooks" for counter-intelligence.
2) Person (forget who, but on Fox news around 10pm) saying that a Senator Frank Church had decimated the CIA a few years back.

That was Safer wasn't it former NY or LA police chief?

One of the prevaling themes in Clancy's books is the decimation of "HumInt" or Human Intelligence, i.e. on-sight "spooks". I heard another terrorist expert talking about the same thing on tonight's radio coverage.
