Perhaps not the biggest news of the day, but it is interesting that you can hear jets flying over Los Angeles. Since all the commercial flights and I presume the private jets as well are grounded these jets must be military.
Has anyone else in the Los Angeles area noticed this?

There has been a fair number of jet noises here over Arlington VA(2 miles from the pentagon). Not a real suprise though. Just kinda wierd because it sounds so much like standard approach traffic to National.

Around 4:30 p.m. EST two military jets flew over my house, about 15 minutes east of Pittsburgh.
I periodically heard sonic booms prior to and for a half hour or so after the sighting. Shortly after as well I saw what appeared to be an Apache helicopter skittering across the horizon, close to the treetops.
My assumption is that every major city with Air National Guard and Air Force bases or wings in the vicinity will see these kinds of flights in the next few days.

They are all Miltary jets as far as I am aware in the DC area. Remember that some military planes look like commercial aircraft. KC135's and such.

Richmond, VA - we've had planes flying over. But we're between D.C. and Hampton Roads Naval Base. We see military planes all the time anyway.

We've had aircraft from our local airbase flying over today too. At first when I heard them (~10am) it made me jumpy, but when I listened closely and took a closer look I recognized them from airshows. Good feeling knowing they're flying nearby.

Jet noise is the sound of freedom, indeed.
I live here in Florida. A couple of hours ago I was out walking my daughter and her friend. I heard that sound of freedom off to the east. I knew that one, perhaps two, jet fighters were on patrol off the Southeast Florida coast.
And I felt very good. For once on this day, I felt very, very good. These men up there were defending my daughter and her friend.
They have the everlasting gratitude of a grateful nation.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

I'm 10 miles west of Pittsburgh near the airport. I've heard jets too. I turned on my scanner and picked up jet fighters from the Ohio National guard on patrol in the Pittsburgh area. I can receive military UHF on my radios.

A side note, there has not been a lot of news about the plane than went down near Pittsburgh. What is KDKA saying about it?

Indeed, our military are indeed on the job, thier job is to defend our freedom after a declaration of war. War has been declared, they can and will handle it.
They are our finest young men and women, and when I hear those jets overhead, I do feel safe, knowing that they are indeed on the job!!

Besides no airplanes, we have had no rail traffic. I am in a small town north of Atlanta, GA. The RR tracks are only about a mile away. I am away aware of the trains going by because I have a pot-bellied pig that runs around in circles with each passing train. The first to pass all day was just a few minutes ago. It is very eerie. We probably have fifty trains go by every day at a minimum.

Here in in Orange County, my daughter heard aircraft about an hour ago, freaked and ran outside to see what it was. It turned out to be a helicopter.

Not a lot actually, so far as I have seen. It seems like there are very little pictures and the authorities are keep a tight policy on who gets into the crash site. I know they are arranging reporter pools. My guess is perhaps the FAA, FBI, FEMA, whatever is looking for the black box. I hope we know more by tomorrow.

Amen. The argument is airport or park. Let's reopen it as a Marine airbase!
