Blowback: The WTC Bombing (1993)

While researching the web for information on the World Trade Center, I came across this little nugget:

Blowback: The WTC Bombing

... in Afghanistan, the United States also helped bring to power the Taliban, a fundamentalist Islamic movement. A group of these mujahideen, who only a few years earlier the United States had armed with ground-to-air Stinger missiles, grew bitter over American acts and policies in the Gulf War and vis-à-vis Israel. In 1993, they bombed the World Trade Center and assassinated several CIA employees as they waited at a traffic light in Langley, Virginia. Four years later, on November 12, 1997, after the Virginia killer had been convicted by an American court, unknown assailants shot and killed four American accountants, unrelated in any way to the CIA, in their car in Karachi, Pakistan, in retaliation.

[From Blowback: The Costs and Consequences of American Empire by Chalmers Johnson, New York: Metropolitan Books, 2000, p. 13.]

It is interesting to note that the Taliban, now headed up by Bin Laden, was in on the original WTC bombing as well as a simultaneous attack in Washington D.C.

Coincidence? It seems to me that this terrorist group returned to familiar territory to "do the job right" this time.

Well, no doubt about it. Kansi, who shot those people at the CIA entrance, had some friends down here in my neighborhood. He used to help them work on the brakes on their cabs.

The plane they hijacked at Dulles was commandeered, and flown directly to Springfield, where Kansi's buddies live, and then it turned "left" to head toward the Pentagon.

There's absolutely no doubt that there were folks on the ground here looking up at the most propitious moment to catch sight of their "weapon" turning toward the Pentagon.

After Kansi shot the people, these guys took the car he used and repainted it right out on the street (Villa Park). It took over a year to get the Fairfax Police and the FBI interested in this fact, although they did interview a couple of people in Grand View who had known Kansi.

How long will it take the FBI to come to the conclusion that quite possibly this particular group of terrorists have folks on the ground in this area. They keep the pizza joint with the really great Afghan bread in business at Hechinger Plaza on Backlick.

Presumably "Carnivor" will pick this up, although an email to the Reverend Horsely might well attract more attention.

I have little confidence in these people anymore.

Two or three decades ago Bin Laden worked for the United States. We paid him and his followers to take on the Russians. They did it pretty well.

About 5 years ago I interviewed a former US military advisor who had served during that period in Afganistan. He had since retired and was now dealing in precious stones mined in from Afganistan. Mrs Tator drug me to his jewelry show... she wanted some. I went kicking and screaming, but after I talked to him I had a different perspective on Bin Laden and his movement. White sheeted political zealot was not the way this retired colonel described Bin Laden. He lead me to believe that we had a lot to fear from Bin Laden.

But at the time the people who thought the Ayatola was a good replacement for the Shaw thought that Bin Laden was not all that bad either. It was as a result of this the Democrats forced us to sign on to not killing any of our enemies. We made it illegal for a president of the united states to order a Bin Lauden type killed. Unfortunately the Democrats failed to make it impossible for these people to kill us.

We have attempted to make airports and airplanes a weapon free zone. Ig our pilots are crews were trained and armed, there is no way this could have happened. It would not have been attempted. A lot more people would be alive tonight.

I hope the anti gun people such as the idiots that write for the Columbus Ohio Dispatch have to look in a mirror and accept the results of achieveing their demand for a weapons free zone on planes and in airports.

You know what the real name for a weapons free zone is, don't you? It is called the killing zone.

If you watched the worldwide reaction, it would appear the light has been seen by all. We can only hope the resolve doesn't falter.
