Amen Reaganite. My son is at Fort Polk and is also very busy. My husband left the house yesterday for Headquarters and hasn't been back since. All the schools are closed, the commissaries and other facilities are closed. The Terrible Swift Sword's edge is being sharpened.

Thank you rintense. My son-in-law is a USMC Captain stationed at the Pentagon. He was duty officer yesterday and all night. Thank God he's OK, but the enormity of this is now just starting to sink in for all of us.

I spoke with him earlier today, and he said that the fire is still spreading - this has just been confirmed by Fox News, that the Pentagon has again been evacuated.

We must all pray - for those who were murdered and for their grieving families, and for President Bush, all who are involved in rescue attempts and all medical personnel who are valiantly trying to save lives. And we must pray for our great nation - we are being tested as never before in our history.

Thank you, rintense. Normalcy centers on 'A day in the life'... of each of us. Prayers for all (New Yorkers and families of those on the planes and in the Pentagon). May you be given strength, encouragement, comfort, and, in the future, peace as you and we deal with this EVIL act of terror.

An optimistic report for you.
I had assumed everyone above the plane crash floors in South Tower, the second tower hit, would have died. But the good news is that, as it was the second tower hit, people above the crash site had already started evacuating before their building was hit.
A man said that he had been on the 102nd floor and had made it down to the 27th when the plane hit. He got out alive. And when he hit the street level, a cop told him to get the hell out of the area, which he and his compadres did.
The loss of life above the crash floors may have been well below what I was fearing in that second tower. But I say a prayer for the cop who directed them to safety, as he was probably one of the heroes who died saving many others.
And that is the good news that many more people may have been saved than we thought. And more may yet be pulled from basement areas.
