I have many concerns about the future of our nation. We are the United States of America, land of the free and home of the brave. We are at war and will be for years. Remember what this country stands for, liberty and freedom. Unless we all stand together as one, we will never prevail.
It seems rather silly now, but how many threads have been devoted to the South and the Confederacy and the debate on whether or not one can be proud of our Southern Heritage without embracing slavery? We in the South know what it is like to be regarded as evil racists based on nothing more than where we proudly call home. Blacks know what it is like to be judged and dismissed based on skin color alone. Every segment of our society has gone through a period when they were judged on race and/or creed. How many of us were sickened when Al Gore went to the black community and accused us of wanting to go back to the days of counting blacks as 3/5 of a person?
It is time for us to put our money where our mouth is. For if we condemn any segment of our society based on their religion, we are hypocrites.
We are land of the free and home of the brave. We need to support our country and our President 200% and then some. But we also must be ever vigilant that the battle is to protect our freedom, not destroy it. I do not want to have to card an National ID card. I do not want to be required to carry papers. I do not want the airlines or any other public agency to have a database to track my movements. I do not want to have to justify why I am entering South Carolina from Georgia. And as much as it would sicken me and everyone else on this forum, if Joe Blow wants to stand on a street corner and verbally trash our country, I want him to be able to do so without fear of arrest or retribution.
