I'm beginning to think we don't have any nuclear weapons. We don't have any. We just don't. If you have them and can't/won't use them then you don't have them... Oh well.

Maybe they're bombing themselves so the Islamic world will think it's us. I'm jesting of course, but not completely. Nothing is too loony for that crowd.

I think you're right! I think the Russians are taking this opportunity to get a little revenge on the Taliban, who, after all, are mostly the same ones who humiliated them in the 80s. Whatever - happy shootin', Russia!

I posted this on another thread that got pulled.

Guy on CNN now (Cohen) is saying that this could just be part of the civil war that's been going on over there.

Possible.

The current news is that the last main opposition to the Taliban was killed yesterday.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Intelligence reports show the guerrilla commander who led the fight against Afghanistan (news - web sites)'s ruling Taliban, Ahmad Shah Masood, died in a weekend explosion, U.S. officials said on Monday, amid conflicting comments about the opposition leader's fate.

``We believe he's dead,'' a U.S. official told Reuters on condition of anonymity. ``Intelligence reports from the region and elsewhere say he's dead.''

It was believed that there would be an offensive against his forces after his death was confirmed.

Story from yesterday:

Afghan Taliban launch attack north of capital

KABUL, Sept 11 (AFP) -

Afghanistan's ruling Taliban militia on Tuesday launched a heavy military offensive north of Kabul following reports of the death of opposition commander Ahmad Shah Masood, resistance sources said.

"They want to exploit the atmosphere and advance but they faced resistance," Masood spokesman Mohammad Habeel told AFP.
