I can certainly undertand closing down the financial markets to avoid a panic sell off. I cannot understand closing schools (when there is a perfect opportunity for learning) or closing down malls and other areas of commerce.

I'm hearing complaints on TV that the US Intelligence community has let us all down. DUH! The House Intelligence Committee had the likes of Gary Condit on it! What the hell could we expect out of it except betrayal and incompetence?
Now his apologists who refused to force him off the committee or kick him out of Washington DC are our defenders and leaders. They did not take national security seriously - it was playtime and partisan politics for them. They belong behind bars.

Many of the schools in CT that were closed would have likely included students whose parents and relatives worked at the WTC or nearby.
