Anyone been listening to Peter Jennings on ABC?
He is criticising President Bush saying it's been two hours since he spoke from Florida; that the President needs to demonstrate more vigorous leadership during this crisis. With the largest attack against the U.S. (internal to our borders) in history, how can this talking head suggest that the President needs to be making PR appearances, when he needs to be conferring with top security officials within the government and elsewhere in order to ascertain whom was responsible, and to coordinate and develop an appropriate response?
I think we need somehow to let Peter Jennings and ABC know that we cannot accept this ridiculous criticism of Pres. Bush when the nation is in the midst of this crisis. PR, would of course, be the first response from our former Prez, and Peter would be lauding ex42 regardless of what he had done, if this had occurred on his watch.
I believe he DID violate the bounds of wisdom, decency, and common sense -- which form a far more restrictive perimeter.
Making Jennings, his managers at ABC, and his programs sponsors very uncomfortable until change comes is what is called for -- as it will come from an outraged citizenry.
Heavy-handed legal action by the Feds making a martyr out of Jennings would be unwise, and -- in my view -- less than Constitutional.
Good for him!!! He obviously knows his history, so I would tend to applaud his school, too....
Thanks StarFan and nutmeg for your concern for me and my family. My daughter is also ok---supposed to fly home from Seattle today and was grounded at the last minute. Nephew and nephew-in-law who work in New York are home safe too. Sister in DC also fine.
PS: As a Canadian I oppose all those who are thinking that Jennings made his comment as a Canadian. I am sure there is no Canadian at this time to feel profound sadness of loss of thousands of human lives in on frienly negbbour's account. I just spent an hour with my wife to pray for those who died and those who are injured and those who lost their friends and relatives and we know that nations at the moment as this one should flock behind their leaders and not to start internal quarells. Do not blame us, Canadians -we did not elect your Bubba Clinton with all his adventures any of them can be behind this sad tragedy.
I heard this comment as well in passing a TV at work. Thought I heard him wrong at first, but another confirmed it for me. What an ass...........
If Peter Jennings said these things in question form to a guest that is another story... but if he stated blankly what is alleged here ABC should fire his arse this minute.
BTW The only TV station online in NYC is CBS... the rest all had broadcast equipment on to of WTC.
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU????? Get that idiot Jennings off the TV. America is at war. Wait. Maybe you don't understand. When a country is at war, when a country has been attacked, said country bands TOGETHER. Said country does NOT attack the leadership. Lose Jennings now......"
I'll try to find a number on the west coast & post, if I can find it.
ABC's broadcast content has been in clear violation of the FCC's licensing requirements for a long time. Same with the other network channels and some of the cables. They will all continue to do this, because they know the FCC will never enforce these. The airwaves are owned by us and licensed by us on paper only.
And I DON'T watch Jennings, Brokaw, etal....I saw the thread here on FR & thought I'd respond to that idiot.
Great, I'm listening to the radio and even THEY are saying where the President is and with whom he's speaking. We're really stupid people, ya know???????
Sadly, fellow FReeper Barbara Olson was on the plane that plunged into the Pentagon. I'll really miss her... God rest her soul. We also know of several people who were known to be trapped this morning up on the 92nd and 96th floors of one of the WTC towers... no word from either of them. I am so consumed with sadness over all this loss of life and injury.
