He's at Barksdale AFB - Shreveport, Lousiana. Local news there reporting it.

I live in Tampa. President Bush was in Sarasota (about an hour south of Tampa) at a school this morning. Local radio was talking to a contractor at MacDill AFB in south Tampa who said that Bush may be returning to Tampa. Someone on the bridge between Sarasota and Tampa reported seeing the presidential motorcade flying by them northbound escorted by Florida State Troopers. NOTE: This is all UNCONFIRMED as reported on local radio by a few witnesses.

CNBC just reported that he's in Shreveport, LA and will speak shortly.

Irma, when I heard he was in Louisiana, my first thought was of you and gumbo. Gumbo is the best tranquilizer I know. I am in Baton Rouge, wish he were in texas. This is just shocking.

There are specific proceedures for this kind of emergency.

The President typically will become airborne, the VP and other high level officials may do same. Or they go to bunkers like the one outside of Washington. Special planes (they were called 'Looking Glass' sometime ago) take-off to assist in command and control for the Commander in Chief. Bet your are glad we have a real one aren't you? Sorry just couldn't help myself.

But this is when the NCA(National Command Authority, or some such name) takes over and runs the military and rest of the country from remote locations. Makes them less of a target of opportunity.

And yes, they will shoot down airplanes which they deem hostile.
