War has been brought home to us in a very dramatic way.

Any reports from other than DC and NY and the Pittsburgh crash? Anything going on in other freeper cities? Military movements? Combat aircraft?

Very true: this is an act of war, and our response(s) will be made with this fact in mind.

Who did it? Chairman Arafat's protestations aside, if (and I stress if)responsibility for these acts lie with Palestinian elements--however radical they may be--Israel no longer needs to concern itself with negative US public sentiment if indeed war comes to the region.

In fact,--and I mean this SOLELY in a very narrowly-defined strategic sense--if Palestinian elements are responsible for this attack, American support of aggressive Israeli action in defense of its sovreignty and security against Palestinians and their apologists will be similar to U.S. support/acceptance of anti-Bolshevik talk and action made by the Germans during the 1930's (i.e., "American First"-ers who saw Nazi Germany as a "buffer" between Western Europe/United States and the Soviet Union).

How can American sentiment go against a PM Sharon who chooses to deal with the "killers of innocent Israelis and Americans alike" in a far more aggressive manner than he has previously-?

I've always had some sympathy with the Palestinian's plight. I am not a gung-ho supporter of Israel, although they have some right on their side too.

If the Palestinians did this, I no longer care. They'd have made a grave mistake. If they are responsible then they are a malicious virus on the human species and need to be removed. There will be no sympathy left for them in this country. Whoever did this, let nothing be left of them.

Durban Conference, and its tragic outcome...

Liberty's enemies are operating inside the US, at the UN headquarters.

Your generation knows how to deal with tragedies of this sort, 'Bert. We need your perspective today.

I believe I heard the words, "Nuke 'em" coming out of the mouth of a Gore-voting, former Peace Corp, liberal, San Francisco-raised co-worker this morning.

Bump for the headline. Cooler heads will prevail.

NPR already is talking about what "trade-offs" of liberty will be in order to make ourselves more "secure" in the future.

This probably makes the likes of Cohen, Ford, Clinton, Bush, Kissinger, et al. very happy. That's something to think about.

___________________________

Bush is talking of 'hunting down" those folks ... (the suicide hijackers, one assumes?) ... who carried out these acts. "Terrorism against the United States will not stand."

Probably should have thought that through before using a certain amount themselves for dramatic effect. Not just here at home but abroad where the Uncle Sam's clean hands now are reaping what they've sown. The Message They're Sending is Essentially the Same Thing

Perhaps they'll be rethinking their "strategic partnerships" now that things aren't quite so contained as OKC.

I'll be interested to see how long it takes for them to "bulldoze" the remains of these tragedies.

Bush is talking of "hunting down" the terrorists (those primarily responsible already dead, one assumes). "Terrorism against the U.S. will not stand" says he.

Probably should have thought that through before Uncle Sam's clean hands started sowing -- at home and abroad -- more than they care to reap when what goes around comes around.

I guess I know now why Mr Bush was elected. I hope he is on his knees now praying for wisdom. There may be a bigger loss of life here than Pearl Harbor. At least the Japs attacked a military station, and that brought us into WW2. Will this cowardly attack bring us to WW3? Get out your Bible people and read Revelations.

Hubby just suggested that we give blood. We're heading to our nearest Red Cross Center (our local hospital no longer has a blood donation center). They are going to need TONS of it folks. If you're feeling as angry, shaken and helpless as I am right now, PLEASE do something POSITIVE!! PRAY for all who were killed and injured, I shudder to think how many were still in those buildings when they went down. And GIVE BLOOD AS SOON AS YOU CAN AND SPREAD THE WORD!!

We were in the middle of a Math lesson with our homeschooled kids when I heard of the first plane. I went to turn on the TV and had the kids come to watch. That's when we saw the video of the second plane(Pray also for those poor folks on the hijacked airliners-How in the WORLD was THAT allowed to happen, anyway?) Then as we were watching, it looked like a building next door exploded and I told my daughter, "The Trade Center just collapsed!" And sure enough, that is what had happened! Then as we watched longer, the second tower came down. Nothing like watching History being made live; I told them this was their homeschooling for the day.

Anyway, we're out the door to give blood; everyone go and do the same!!

Ah, but this war by other means now. No country has declared war against the US. No country will. For all we know, these "folks", to use our President's unfortunate term, come from an ahem, "friendly" nation. We have no Nagasaki's to bomb here. What to do? Bomb another aspirin factory? This war by other means against the US has been going for how long now, 30, 40 years? William F. Buckley and others have long advocated establishing an international strike force with a mandate to find and eliminate terrorists. Has anyone listened?

This is probably just stating the obvious, but these are the acts of people who believe that they are on the receiving end of a great deal of injustice, and that they have nothing to lose by making a statement in this very public way. These are desperate people who feel that they have been ignored. If they continue to feel ignored, there will be further repetitions in the future of what happened today.

I doubt that we're ever going to find out exactly who is responsible for this stuff. Not to the point where any meaningful retaliation is going to be able to take place. The United States of America is extemely reticent to involve innocent life in any retaliatory efforts.

Bomb Kabul, bomb Baghdad, bomb Tripoli, and then bomb Damascus. Destroy all military bases in those nations. Assassinate all known terrorists on sight.

May God help guide our President through this unspeakable evil attack. My prayers are offered for the families of victims, may we FINALLY as a NATION come together - 8 years of treason, sell-out by bill clinton has brought us to this point. May our servicemen and women who are now called to put thier lives on the line be filled with the courage needed to fight. May God save our beloved country and bring patriots together.
