Organic chemistry, Dostoevsky, the Metaphysics of Morals. These are the things parents expect to hear when they ask their kids what they're learning at college.
But a course called "How to Be Gay?" Or Columbia University's "Pirates, Boys and Capitalism," which uses the image of a pirate to explore colonialism and homosexuality? How about an Arizona State University course where the students watch classic porn films like Deep Throat and Insatiable?

the U of Chicago is pretty way left, IMHO. And I cannot see justifying these stupid courses -- or expecting parents to pay for them

Both the U of Chicago and Columbia--while no doubt remaining bastions of feel-good squishy leftism--both maintain requirements for a core curriculum that has been essentially unchanged for decades.
The courses given as examples are impossible to defend, but the lefties on campus have no choice but to do just that. They're all self-indulgent claptrack and EVERYONE knows it.

When I pay for my kids college, by golly, I'll know what I'm paying for. This stuff isn't cheap, and it's just plain a waste of time.
Academics will be paid for. If they chose those freaky liberal classes, they'll have to beg on the streets to pay for them.
The cash won't come from here!
Parents aren't being parents anymore. Send the kid off to the indoctrination centers and forget about them. Let the schools raise them.
That's what's wrong with America today. Parents are missing, and the village of the insane has taken over.
