Wayne County Meeting a Huge Success (Permits issued tomorrow)

The Wayne County Chapter meeting at the Wayne County Sportsmen's Club went extremely well. Wayne County Sheriff Robert Ficano, Sgt. Jan Pierce from the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Jerry Dziedzic Deputy Clerk of Wayne County, Representative Bruce Patterson, and Senator Chris Dingell were all present and spoke. The place was packed with a crowd of around 250 people.

Sheriff Ficano assured us that he was doing everything that he could to make sure the process was moving along. He stated that the when the gun board meets they will approve all the applications that have been turned in and meet the requirements. Sgt. Pierce reminded us that this is the first time for the Sheriff's office is handling this, that there was no computer program or any other type of program setup to handle the process. She has been working very hard to get a program in place and asked for patience while they get the bugs worked out of the system. She also assured us that the last thing she wants is 1,800 applicants calling her daily asking what their status is. She assured us she is trying to get the licenses issued as fast as possible.

The Deputy Clerk, Jerry Dziedzic, stated that the board will approve the permits and will not require applicants to appear before the board unless there is a question about their application. He stated that once the board approves the application the applicant will receive a letter in the mail stating they can come down to the Clerks office to pick up their permit.

Some of the information coming from the audience about prints being returned by the FBI already seemed to suprise the Sheriff. I am sure he has been busy with the regular work of the Sheriff's office, plus getting local cities to finger print, plus making sure the prints are getting processed, that he has not had time to check if there are problems with prints being returned. He is aware of this now and I have a feeling that he will be looking into the issue of the prints being returned from MSP.

Senator Dingell assured all of us that he is aware of an apparant backlog somewhere in the system and that he will track down where it is and have it resolved.

Many of you are aware of the lawsuit that Ignham County Prosecutor Dunnings took to court to stop the CCW law. Dunnings had asked the Wayne County Sheriff to join in on the lawsuit but Sheriff Ficano told them no. There is no large scale plan in Wayne County to make sure that no or few permits are issued. However, that doesn't mean there aren't problems and bugs in the system. Patience has been requested and should be given to them so that they can focus on fixing any problems instead of spending all their time answering phone calls. You can rest assured that MCRGO and Senator Dingell are looking over their shoulders to make sure the process continues to move forward.

In all I think everyone was given a good deal of information on how the process works and how the process is moving forwards. It was an honor for MCRGO to have so many distinguished people attend the meeting to speak and answer questions.

There is much more posted on MCRGO's message boards on their website. Things are not perfect and there is a lot of backlog, especially in Wayne County. Blame ED MCNAMARA for the money troubles there. He gives Ficano the budget. There are currently I believe 1800 applicants there. 40 should get CCW tomorrow, hopefully more. MCRGO will update us all on the situation.

I was in Jackson for the MCRGO meeting there. State rep Mickey Mortimer and Prosecutor John McBain spoke. A not that well known problem in Michigan is that the STate Police can take your guns WITHOUT A CONVICTION. This has been posted on in the past. Mortimer has issued legislation correcting this. When I find out more on this from his office, I'll be in Lansing talking to my state reps. That's just wrong.

Keep going! Good luck. As a state with permits, I've never felt safer and I would love to visit Michigan as a reciprocal state.

P.S. If michigan is a reciprocity state, I believe Arizona will issue a permit to any United States resident. Not sure though.

The rapists in Michigan are not happy tonight. They never know if their next potential victim will fill them with lead. It's probably not a very secure feeling. I wonder if they'll find an attorney to sue.

PS I lived in Detroit for 2 years many moons ago.

Michigan is the only state that grants reciprocity to ALL other states' residents.

The problem in Wayne County is that the arrogant sheriff's office never thought the law would take effect, and so made no plans to implement it.
