BACKGROUND:
The hearing will focus on the U.S. Justice Department’s new policy that prevents Congress from viewing deliberative memoranda pertaining to criminal investigations. Witnesses will be asked to testify regarding this policy and its impact on Congressional oversight. Further information regarding the upcoming hearing is available at www.house.gov/reform.
Funny, suddenly, to some, John Ashcroft is dirt, when for years, he was a stalwart champion of conservative causes, a professed Christian and always a gentleman. Now, because he doesn't play the part of Javert to Clinton's Valjean, he's abandoned and excoriated. I love politics.
I'm still waiting to see how this plays out but I don't see Bush and Ashcroft as the bad guys here.
But you already knew that.
