My grandmother use to say that you could determine a forth comming war by the male birth rate. Have alot of boys, war is on the way. Hopefully that is an old folks tale, but it would be interesting to know the birth rate of boys 18 to 20 years prior to WW1, WW2, Korea, and Viet Nam.

This is a very stupid and misleading article. What it fails to explain is the reason for the ratio is that women outlive men by several years. With liberated women entering the work force, women are starting to die of the same stress related diseases that have been killing men.

A very efficient mechanism for getting rid of excess males. < /> sarcasm

Kill 50,000 American males in 10 years. 50,000 out of 100,000,000 (roughly) at the time. That is .05% of the male population, demographically speaking barely a blip.

I bet many times that many American men were murdered during the same period in this country. Not to mention those killed in car crashes.

I wish Americans would get over this "Vietnam as killer of a whole generation of Americans" nonsense. Vietnam killed roughly .025% of the Americanpopulation.

The War Between the States killed about 2%. Eighty times as many proportionately. To equal that slaughter, 4 million American men would have had to die in Vietnam.
