THE BALKANS: Sending a Message to Albanians
September 6, 2001; Greece announced its armed forces will conduct a training exercise near the northern Macedonian border from September 10 to 14. The exercise is named Philippos 2001. The Greek defense ministry announcement indicated the exercise would be a large-scale combined arms exercise. Is there a message? Of course. The Greeks fear spill-over trouble from Macedonia. There are also Albanian minorities in northern Greece. On the flip side, there are ethnic Greeks living in southern Albania.
TOPICS: Extended News; Foreign Affairs; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS:
Philippos 2001 is named after the King of the Ancient Greek kindom of Macedonia and the father of Alexander the Great. Alexander's mother was a queen from the Greek kingdom of Epirus. Northern Epirus (which forms southern Albania) is where about 200,000 (Albanian refuses to open this area to an outside census) Greek Epirotes live.

That was street justice on Albanians. A common site around Greece. Albanians are natural brigands (due to enviornment not genetics) and the Greeks do not lke to wait for the politically correct socialist led police force to show up.

mir is rat, rat is mir!
A perfect example of doublespeak when the name mir is used rather than the more appropriate name rat.

interesting to see the KLA has been calling for a campaign next year against Northern Greece. Wonder why Kfor and Tirana have not been able to rein in the KLA ?
