Boy, those 12 years were sure the pits!
Yes, those were pretty good times.
But don' forget it was all a bit artificial since the Congress (with the Reagan veto pen stuck in his desk) that was running up a huge national debt that we are now taxed to pay the interest on. Someone should make the calculation that shows the growth in real disposable personal income for those years if we had paid enough in federal taxes to balance the budget.
I am NOT suggesting higher taxes should have been collected during Reagan-BushSr but when the people spend money and the Congress spends the same money then we are kidding ourselves just a bit when we talk about real income.
All of this points up my primary criticism of Reagan: He failed to control a runaway Congress. He should have and he didn't and we, our children and our grandchildren and their children and grandchildren will pay and pay for that failure far into the future.
