HOPE, ARKANSAS - The federal government has conferred landmark status on the birthplace and childhood home of former president Bill Clinton. Located on the Little Fornicator River in southwest Arkansas, the Clinton homestead became a National Historic Landmark on Friday, joining more than 2,300 other similarly designated sites.
The home is a uniquely designed double-decker houseboat that was built by Bill Clinton's biological father, William Jefferson Blythe III, who was killed just three months before young Bill was born. Clinton lived in the home for 4 years, but it has not been owned by the Clinton family for the past 30 years. It is now owned by a non-profit foundation.
The houseboat was placed National Register of Historic Places in 1994, but its new landmark status will protect the home for generations to come. National Historic Landmarks are nationally significant historic places designated by the Secretary of the Interior because they possess exceptional value or quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States. For his first four years, Bill Clinton lived on the houseboat with his mother, his maternal grandparents, and his uncle Buddy. It was on this houseboat that Bill spent his formative years, learning to walk, talk, lie, cheat, and steal.
"National Historic Landmarks make tangible the American experience," explained Interior Secretary Gale Norton. "They are places where significant historical events occurred, where prominent Americans worked or lived, that represent those ideas that shaped the nation and that provide important information about our past."
Adding to the historical significance of the home, it was here that young Clinton first learned to drop his pants and say, "Kiss it."
As a special tribute to President Clinton's mother, visitors to the Clinton Birthplace may purchase a brick to be placed around the Virginia Clinton Kelley Memorial Catfish Hatchery.
The CPS nazis must be proud of this model environment...
