JERUSALEM -- Israeli officials are proclaiming a resounding diplomatic victory out of the U.N. conference on racism in South Africa, which had been expected to produce rabid anti-Israeli resolutions at the behest of Muslim delegations.

"It is one of our greatest achievements ever at an international conference," Foreign Minister Shimon Peres said after publication of the conference's final declaration on Friday. "It is a stinging defeat for the Arab League."

If the US had not walked out, this would not have happened.

WE CAN'T WIN, in terms of world opinion!!

If we had stayed, we would have been part of something bad, by leaving we miss out on being part of something good.

(I mean "good" in terms of world opinion, I don't think any of what the UN does is "good.")

Watching that conference crash and burn was delightful. It became a hornet's nest of anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism and as a result further solidified US-Israeli relations. The UN has now entered joke status all around and the Leftist-Marxist-pro-Arab-Anti-Israel axis that emerged serves Israel...PR wise. Americans do not take to insults from the likes of the Castro and Arafat and that sort, which is now all intertwined with the Israel bashers. Ha ha.

I don't like America bashers and Anti-Semites, or Marxists and the like.

But that's just me...and most Conservatives - like Kate O'Beirne of National Review who called the conference anti-American and anti-Semitic on Capital Gang this weekend.(-:

Yours is the typical deflection tactic of those who should be embarrassed by this low-life conference but instead harbor a hidden agenda, in this case a likely anti-Israel sentiment. Most real conservatives would condemn this conference without equivocation.

How do you sleep at night with a heart full of such hatred?
When anyone makes a negative comment about Israel you always cry anti-semitism or that they are anti-American. Since when did Israel become the 51st state?

As for me, I sleep very well. My hatred is toward those who hate Israel, and the west, and modern western democratic values. I certainly don't hate the Arabs, Palestinians, or muslims, per se. I hate what their violence and their jihads stand for.

I find it disturbing that there are those who are members of FR who feel it necessary to make common cause with communists, Marxists, and other shades of leftists, in order to excoriate Israel

A legitimate criticism of Israel is quite valid, but why lie down with the enemies of the west and America, to do it? Are you a socialist? Are you a supporter of revolutionary politics in the Middle East? Do you support a unitary secular state, where Israel is now? Or, are you of Palestinian or Arab descent, and hide this fact to lens a façade of “open-mindedness” to your posts? Or, are merely and simply an enemy of Israel, and it’s people? When spouting the rhetoric of America’s enemies, one should be honest enough to state their position candidly.

It would seem that most conservative commentators, and writers, most western leaders and their higher level government ministers and secretaries are of the same opinion — that criticism of Israel is anti-Semitism, and anti-western.

I guess everyone in the world is out of step, except you.

If the US had not walked out, this would not have happened.

Absolutely correct. And, had the issue of reparations not been on the table, I doubt the US would have walked out. The Israelis are deluding themselves if they count this as a success. The world is still out to exterminate them and the US will be a willing partner - if the price is right.
