The first thing I noticed was that they did not have airborne training haircuts. Their hair is much too long to be realistic for any military training. Anyone else notice this or anything else?

I checked out some photos of the 506th Airborne when it was at Tocca. Of the photos showing troops without their hats, none of them had the 'high & tight' crew cuts that are current with airborne troops today. They didn't have long or even longish hair but it looks like a regular civilian cut of the era and what I wore during most of my military career, i.e. not a G.I. type crew cut.

Actually very short hair on military personnel only became big after about the mid 1950s if you look at photos of military men over the years. And especially after the 1960s, when hair length became a sort of political statement for a time, the military haircuts were especially short. If you look at WWII photos of Marines, many of them have remarkably long hair by today's military standards, including even many pompadours.
