Snared Shark Gets Revenge, Bites Captor
Last Updated: September 09, 2001 11:39 AM ET
MIAMI (Reuters) - A shark took revenge on its captor, biting a fisherman who had caught it in the sea off the Florida Everglades but then fell into the water, the Miami Herald reported Sunday.
The 44-year-old fisherman was airlifted to Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital Saturday night, where he was treated for a bite to his left leg and several fingers of his left hand, a hospital spokesman said.
He was in good condition and the wounds were "very superficial," spokesman Thomas Ellison told Reuters. He would probably be discharged Monday.
The spokesman declined to give the man's name, saying "he wanted nothing to do with the media."
The Miami Herald reported that the man was fishing off the Everglades National Park Saturday when he caught the shark and pulled it onto his boat.
He then sprayed himself with insect repellent, became slippery and fell off the boat, the newspaper said, quoting a fire-rescue dispatcher. Somehow the shark ended up back in the water too and bit the fisherman.

He would be but he lived. Technically you have to die to get that nomination. However, the becoming slippery from the insect repellent is certainly worth serious points in that direction.

Are you missing an "h" and a "k" from your screen name by any chance?

OK - Let's see which of us is more twisted. Do you smile and laugh as much as I do when you keep hearing of all these shark attacks?

Everybody wants to haul the shark into the boat. Alligators too. They don't realize that a little sand shark can take a nice chunk out of you if you're not careful. Drinking seems to encourage this behavior. Seems to make you bleed a lot more too.

Technically you have to die to get that nomination. Goll dang, I thought all you had to do was be an idiot.

The spokesman declined to give the man's name, saying "he wanted nothing to do with the media." Our laughs would have been better if this fool's name went public. I'd send a card: "Congratulations on surviving your shark attack."

LOL. I would venture to guess he is not singing "I Feel Pretty" right about now.

Last July I was in my backyard and saw some fishermen over on the other side of the lock pond making a bit of a commotion.
I got my binoculars and checked out the action...one man hauled in a LARGE snapping turtle with a dip net and deposited it on the shore. The others started taking pictures, while the guy who caught the turtle poked it with a short stick to make it snap.
I could have taken bets on the odds that someone was going to get bitten. To my surprise, no one did. The men soon put the dip net down, pushed the turtle onto it from behind, and carried it back to the pond and let it go.
