[history]
Tennessee is in hot water with the federal government for closing eight state parks, including Dunbar Cave State Natural Area and Port Royal.
Federal officials say the closings violated federal law because those parks received federal funds for land acquisition and development under the condition that they remain open for public outdoor recreation use.

This park closing deal is just like what the Democrats used to do when told to cut spending:
Shut down the Washington Monument.
Taxquist would never consider cutting the pork barrel spending in the state budget--it is easier to engage in policital grandstanding like these park closings.

I hope the National Park Service fines the hell out of Tennessee for this publicity stunt pulled by the lying governor of our fair state of Tennessee.

A temper tantrum is a pitiful thing to watch, and that is just what Sundquist is doing. How childish and vengeful to close state parks and cut police and fire funding just because he lost a battle over taxes. Don't allow the 5 and 1/2% increase in the budget affect your judgment Don!

Note that the federal money these parks recieved came from the Land and Water Conservation Fund which is Title 2 of CARA. Last year LWCF recieved full funding($ 900 million) under CARA Lite.

That's exactly what the politicians do when they want more money. They close down popular services that the public wants and keep the pork barrel going to the people who own them.
They made Prop 13 as unpalatable as possible with what they cut here in California all those years ago. The fat is always the last to go because the fat is what they are there to get for the special interests.

The LWCF has been around since 1965. Concieved of by Ike, developed by JFK, and signed into law by LBJ.

The majority of the Tennessee budget is for pork and welfare. Steve McDaniel, state senator, predicted this crash 12 years ago when he saw welfare spending go from 10% of the budget to almost 75%. He stated there was no way for the state to keep going like it was. He told the truth.

I can't believe that I always voted for Sundquist, even when he was our State Senator. I sure am glad he can not run anymore. I wouldn't even vote for him if he were running for dog catcher STP
