The conflict in the Balkans is ever more frequently being described by political analysts as a religious one: the conflict between the Cross and the Crescent. Is that assertion true and how much influence does the "Islamic factor" have over the situation and the terrorist organisations such as the KLA, LAPMB, NLA and ANA?

Glas asks Dr. Mirolyub Yeftich, professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Belgrade.

What is the primary aim of Islam?

- The aim of Islam is to conquer the world by Jihad (the Holy War), not to fight for freedom. The refusal of Albanians to divide Macedonia renders the theory of the Albanian secessionism dubious. We are witnessing the Albanian expansionism, and they want it all: the whole of Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Greece. The politics employed by these terrorist organisations in Macedonia serves this agenda.

Even the politics of those who declare themselves as democrats and secularists?

- It is especially important that this ideology is deeply rooted in the programmes of these political parties. I would like to remind you that Arben Xaferi's DPA - which is part of the Macedonian government - was conceived under the slogan "With the Spirit of Islam and Albanian Blood". That's how the DPA rejected all forms of secularism. By the way, all these terrorist groups have been at it (the expansionism) from the very beginning.

In November 1990, the leader of the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ferhat Sheta attended a meeting of the Islamic Community of Yugoslavia in Skoplje, whose leader was Reis El Ulema Jakup Efendi Selimoski.

Sheta had, after returning from the meeting in Skoplje, contacted the Chairman of the Commission for the Relations With the Religious Communities Dragan Dragoilovich and told him that the conclusion at the Skoplje meeting was that it "must be ensured that Islam in Albania is revitalised and that steps toward federalisation of the Albanians in Kosovo and separation of western Macedonia" be taken, and that "the subsequent joining of the "Islamic Bosnia" and the (so-called) "Sandzak" with Kosovo and western Macedonia is achieved."

"The Albanians had assured us of their willingness to sacrifice a million people. They had all the weaponry they needed except tanks", Sheta said and added, "Selimoski wants a large Islamic country in the Balkans, which he'd like to be in charge of".

Is there any official confirmation that the Shiptar terrorist organisations are, in fact, Islamic as well?

- In one interview given to Aida Ul Islam, in April 1998, Sheik Muhamed Stubla, the president of The Albanian Islamic Society in London, says: "The KLA is an Albanian and Islamic organisation. Everything the enemy does to it in order to lessen the influence of Islam won't do any good because the strength of Islam is such that the Serbs will get the opposite effect of what they want to achieve."

Shpend Kopriva said, "the KLA is both national and Islamic because it fights for the victory of Albanians and Islam."

How much are the Islamic terrorists involved in the Balkans?

- I'll mention a few examples. The commander of the KLA's "Special Forces" Muhamed Zavahiri, the veteran of the Afghanistan war, is Aiman Zavahiri's brother. Aiman Zavahiri, in turn, is the second in charge of Osama Bin Laden's military operations. Aiman is also personally involved in Kosovo.

The chief of the Albanian Intelligence Service Fatos Klosi confirms that Osama Bin Laden, in partnership with Bashkim Gazi Dedaj who was the chief of the AIS (in Albanian - ShIK) under Sali Berisha, has personally been involved in planning and execution of everything that has happened in Kosovo.

Our authorities have arrested the group of Abu Bekir El Sadiq, whose raison d'être was the Holy War against Christians -- including Albanian Christians -- which Aslan Klechka has mentioned quite a few times. This group was led by Ekrem Avdija who had finished the Islamic Theological Faculty at Medina. Rexhep Boja, the leader of the Islamic Community of Kosovo, also graduated there. Both are heavily inspired by a branch of Sunni Islam known as Wahabeeism.

To which extent is this Albanian armed struggle in accord with Sharia's so-called war right?

- Everything is absolutely and perfectly in accord, which is confirmed by the fact that many Islamic volunteers are present in Kosovo and Macedonia. Certain Russian news agencies, let me remind you, had reported that Dobroshin served as the main base for these mujahedeens who had come from Chechnya.

Ergo, the recruitment bases of the Albanian terrorist organisations in Kosmet, SE Serbia and Macedonia and those of the Islamic terrorists elsewhere are exactly the same. The military-technical behaviour of the Albanian terrorists is absolutely identical to those of the Chechen groups, the Algerian terrorists, Hammas, Hezbolah or the Taliban.

How do you draw that conclusion?

- It is self-evident, really. The way they fight, the way they bury their KIAs, the treatment of POWs, and, finally, the way they establish their rule on the "liberated territory".

Throughout these "liberated territories", they build mosques, their kids attend religious classes en masse, "the liberators" engage in systematic destruction of the Orthodox Christian shrines and cemeteries, etc. In the Serbian village of Goibulya, near Vuchitrn, for example, the KFOR soldiers from the United Arab Emirates are building a mosque!

The plan is to build some 100 mosques within the next five years. In the past two years, over a hundred Orthodox churches have been razed to the ground. The pressure is mounting on the Catholic Albanians, so some of them are converting to Islam in order to survive - in the third millennium!

While the international customs of war forbid the execution of POWs, the Islamic one leaves it up to the commander of the unit. It is entirely up to him whether he'll kill them or not, and he can "justify" these murders by the right the Sharia gives him. Sexual maltreatment is also allowed, even the killing of children in certain cases - in order to mentally terrorize your enemy, for example.

In Algeria, for example, they kill children in the name of Islam. The killing of women and children is "justified" since they are members of these Islamic "armies".

Are these Albanians in Kosmet, south-eastern Serbia and Macedonia religious? To what extent, if at all?

- The research done by the Institute of Political and Legal Studies in Skoplje back in 1977 suggests that 77% of the Muslims polled in Tetovo's Polog valley indicated that they were strict believers.

Virtually all of them said they lived by the Sharia. 15% said they were "sort of religious" while 8% said they'd been hiding their piety because they were in the SKJ (Savez Komunista Jugoslavije / The Federation of Communists of Yugoslavia), and that they secretly circumcised their sons and went on Haj, to Mecca.

In 1990, it was publicly stated that "the Albanian way in Macedonia is Allah's way".

Here we go, my Friend.....no doubt the Muslims want to take over the world, country by country.....
