US: No plans for Bush-Arafat meeting in NY
By Melissa Radler
Speaking on Meet the Press a short while ago, President George W. Bush's National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice put to rest rumors that Bush plans
to meet with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat at the United Nations General Assembly, which opens in New York on September 24.
"At this point in time, there are no plans for the President to meet with Yasser Arafat in New York," said Rice on the Sunday morning news show aired on NBC.
Asked to comment on today's terror attacks that killed five Israelis, Rice told interviewer Tim Russert that the Bush administration has received "new assurances from the Palestinian Authority that they are trying to stop
the violence."
She added that until now, the PA has not done enough to stop violence and terror against Israel.
Rice also expressed condolences to the victims. "Violence against civilians in really senseless and it just shouldn't continue," she said.
I really do wish the Jerusalem Post and Haaretz would not jump on every rumor. It's annoying.
