TRENTON, N.J. -- The New Jersey State Police and the manufacturer of new handguns that jammed repeatedly during trooper training have reached an agreement to cancel the purchase of all 3,200 service weapons, state officials said Saturday.
The state police had agreed to pay Smith & Wesson Corp. $1,323,000 for the Model 99 9mm sidearms and some magazine cartridges delivered earlier this year to barracks around the state. All but $377,000 was paid, according to Roger Shatzkin, spokesman for the state Department of Law and Public Safety.

S&W is nothing but a government stooge. Sounds like their quality has gone the way of their principles, too. Bye bye, S&W. Don't let the door hit you in the fanny on the way out.

Shouldn't the NJ State Police be compelled, as recipients of Federal funding - which I'm sure they are - to support the government's deal with S&W and buy the guns even if they don't work?
After all, how will S&W ever develop a 'smart' gun if we also insist on the things working?

"S&W is nothing but a government stooge. Sounds like their quality has gone the way of their principles" S&W's semis were crap long before the sellout. When North Carolina's state-police agencies were switching over from revolvers to semis in 1985-86, they chose Beretta 92s - after finding S&W 9mms simply unreliable.

In a news release Saturday, Dunbar said the Smith & Wesson Model 99s were chosen Sounds like they bought a bunch of cheap Saturday Night Specials! Goodbye, S&W, RIP.

Liberals always flame cheap Saturday night specials as being "unsafe and unreliable." What would you know the cops don't agree with the assessment. At least the manufacturers of SNS's haven't bent over backwards to lick the gun banners boots which explains why the anti-2nd Amendment crowd has it in for them unlike S&W for whom they concocted a special sweetheart deal. But not even the cops are buying S&W's which should tell them company no one likes dealing with rats and those who sleep with them. It couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of folks.

"Liberals always flame cheap Saturday night specials as being "unsafe and unreliable." What would you know the cops don't agree with the assessment." I doubt that any Jennings or Bryco cheapie is any more unreliable than the typical S&W semi!
During the revolver-to-semi switchover here in North Carolina in 1985-86, a selection panel choosing the new sidearm for state-level agencies found that the S&W semis had the problem they were (already) notorious for - failure-to-feed problems involving ammo hanging up on the feed ramp.
Sounds a lot like the reputation cheap .25s have!

What we really need to find out is whether the new owner of Smith & Wesson has voided their deal with the devil or not.

There was a gun quarterly published back in the 80's that bought a Smith semiauto and a Raven on the open market and shot them a lot - guess which jammed the most - one guess enough? They may be the ones who now publish "Gun Tests." They once went to Mexico and shot some hogs for an ammo test - the PETA types were not amused.
