Elementary student charged with making terroristic threats
By HOLLI DEAL ROACH, Reporter for the Statesboro (Ga.) Herald
A nine-year-old boy was charged Thursday with making terroristic threats after he reportedly told two other Julia P. Bryant Elementary students that he was "going to kill them."
Statesboro Police reports revealed the child was charged, then released into his parents' custody.
Julia P. Bryant Principal Kelly Tharp said Friday the child was also disciplined according to Bulloch County Board of Education policies governing such infractions. Threats of any kind are not tolerated, according to school officials.
The incident was treated "as we do with any child who makes a threat ... to do bodily harm," Tharp said. "Whether we think the child will actually carry out the threat or not, we make a report to (Bulloch County School Superintendent Dr. Lynn Batten), the district attorney, and the police."
Discretion is used, but school officials prefer to "err on the side of caution," she said.
Students are drilled on proper behavior and are taught what is acceptable to say and what isn't, she said.
"For the first four days of school we visited every home room in the school and did a 20 minute presentation on what not so say or do," Tharp said. In addition to explaining the policy concerning making threats, educators also touched on sexual, racial or disability harassment.
Tharp is concerned that parents may get the misconception that students are becoming more violent. That isn't the case, she said.
"We don't want people to get the idea that children are getting more violent," she said. "We are getting more cautious."

RS, But NOTHING is done about the abuse about the abusive language used against teachers and Republicans. How many kids and even "grownups" have said "I'll kill you!! in the course of spirited discussion possibly aggravated by the literalized "victim"??? Reminds me of the guy who might go to jail for 3 years for calling somebody who was assaulting his wife a "nigger" in hopes of stopping the assault. These people are crazy. But it's coming to a school near YOU soon. As Zbigniew Brzyzinski wrote, "We must start punishing 'non-physical' actions." {WORDS!!}. "For the children"!! Peace and love, George.
You have got to be kidding me!!! You cannot teach a 9 year old anything in 20 minutes! Let alone something which if they do not learn will get them arrested!!!
Does it need to be said?: Home School!
