[history]
Embattled Rep. Gary Condit -- who tried to quash media reports that he will not run for re-election -- could profit handily from government pensions should he hang on to his 18th Congressional District seat until the end of his term.

By forging ahead with his Oct. 20 "Condit Country" fund-raiser, Condit also can keep contact with supporters who may help pay his bills, Cain said. Bingo, follow the money. If Condit says "I'm not going to run" then he will not be able to raise any money.
Condit needs money.

Bruce Cain, professor of political science at the University of California at Berkeley, said the most likely scenario is "there is something going on in terms of an exchange" between Condit and party leaders. Laz, would you care to decipher the hypothetical "exchange?"
Gephardt, Condit, pensions; it all depresses me. I need a laugh.

"Remember Monica and Bill? Or how about Rep. Barney Frank's illicit affair with prostitute Steven Gobie, who ran his gay prostitution ring out of Frank's Washington apartment? The Democrats "believed" his excuse: He simply didn't know about those multiple illegal "escorts" farmed in and out of his home by his own boyfriend.
Democrats let Frank, then Clinton and now Condit, get away with the unthinkable. Then, they force men like Gingrich and Livingston to resign in disgrace over minor extramarital affairs that, in contrast, involved no lawbreaking." ~~Debbie Schussel~~

Democrat "honor" is like Jumbo shrimp.
IMHO, Gary has PLENTY of money somewhere. You don't just have ONE vice like adultery...that in itself means you a liar and a cheat, so my guess is he's got MONEY and LOTS of it.

Ann, re: Howard Berman being on the escalator with Condit, did you know that Berman is the ranking member of the HOUSE ETHICS COMMITTEE ?
My rep, Stephanie Tubbs Jones, my ex-county prosector, is also on it!
Have you heard of a thing called "Keep California Golden"?
It raised some $ 66,000 for Gare, a little while ago!

The Capitol Alert from the Aug 3,2001 Sacramento Bee article by Michael Doyle says:
..."He had $ 315,666 available in his campaign treasury.Condit also raises funds through a state political action committee,KEEP CALIFORNIA GOLDEN,which reports having $ 277,00 in available cash.
Whether he'll try to cover his mounting legal fees with these surplus political funds remains a question yet to be answered by the parties involved."
Can he walk away with this half a million bucks?
