TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- The New Jersey State Police and the manufacturer of new handguns that jammed repeatedly during trooper training have reached an agreement to cancel the purchase of all 3,200 service weapons, state officials said Saturday.
The state police had agreed to pay Smith & Wesson Corp. $1,323,000 for the Model 99 9mm sidearms and some magazine cartridges delivered earlier this year to barracks around the state. All but $377,000 was paid, according to Roger Shatzkin, spokesman for the state Department of Law and Public Safety.

Haha! S&W gets some of its just rewards for betraying gun owners.

In a news release Saturday, Dunbar said the Smith & Wesson Model 99s were chosen after about 60 state police personnel from different disciplines extensively tested them, as well as handguns from other manufacturers. Most of these "state police personnel" were probably political hacks who made their choice based solely on the fact that S&W sold out on the gun issue.
I don't see any other reason for them choosing S&W over Sig, Glock, Beretta, or H&K.

Replacing the H&K's with the new S&W doesn't sound very prudent to me...

This S&W/Walther failure is getting HUGE play on the gun forums. Thanks for the flag Mulder. Did you happen to catch the
article about Tacoma approving the 1911?

Did you happen to catch the article about Tacoma approving the 1911? Yes. Thanks for the flag.
Those guys in New Jersey would have been much, much better off with the 1911s than the S&W crap.

So S&W sacrifices their civilian market in order to focus on selling only substandard weapons to police officers... and they can't even do that right.

They should have went with the .40 version. I have it (bought pre sellout) and it is 100% reliable. No failures, misfeeds, stovepipes. It is impervious to limpwristing elbow breaking and fits any hand, just about, like it was molded specifically for it do to the interchangeable backstaps.
On top of that it is fairly light with the Walther made polymer receiver.
Now if it was even smaller I could carry it year round instead using my Keltec .40 for the warmer months.

A clip is not a magazine A mag is not a clip, I wonder what he'd call the device you put pellets in for the Daisy 2000-series airguns? The device does not have a spring to dispense pellets, but instead contains a ratchet-operated rotary device which dispenses one pellet with each cycle of the operating lever. So is that a magazine or a clip (or should I do as Daisy does and call it a mag-clip®)?
